Some Symptoms Require Emergency Pet Care

There are times when your pet needs care right away. These can include serious accidents, sudden illnesses, and other issues. Sometimes, it's difficult to tell if emergency treatment is needed, or if the problem can wait. There are certain concerns you should never leave until the next day. These include:

  • Pale gums
  • A weak or rapid pulse
  • Seizures
  • Trouble breathing
  • Difficulty with standing or walking

If your pet is displaying any of these symptoms, don’t hesitate to bring your pet in for a check-up. We know it can be stressful and frightening when a pet is not well, and we are here to help.

At-Home First Aid Steps You Can Take

There are ways you can help your pets at home with certain conditions. Some at-home care may be all your pets need, or you may need to help them at home before you bring them to our animal hospital. If you're in the Ferndale area, here at the Animal Hospital of Sullivan County can help your pets be healthy again. Before you bring them to us, though, there are some steps you can take. To help stabilize your pets when transporting them to us for urgent care, use direct pressure and elevation to stop any bleeding from an injury.

Uncontrolled bleeding can be fatal, and treating your pet as quickly as possible matters. A broken bone can also be a problem, and using a board or other stable surface to support the area while transporting your pet can help reduce further damage. Wrap a blanket or towel around the board and your pet, and bring him to us right away. With help from our animal hospital, your pet can heal and be whole again. Call the Animal Hospital of Sullivan County today at 845-292-6711 if your pet is need of urgent care, or to schedule an appointment for any one of the many different preventive and wellness services we offer.
