Modern Medicine with a Heart for Our Neighbors

Caring for Your Loyal Companions Since 1953

At the Animal Hospital of Sullivan County, we believe that complete veterinary care begins with a simple truth: pets are family. For over 70 years, our practice has combined high-level clinical authority with the warm, neighborly empathy you would expect from a trusted local expert. We are not just a place for vaccines; we are partners in your pet's health journey.

Our Heritage

A Legacy of Service and Community

Founded in 1953 and currently led by veteran DocBodo, we are a woman-owned and family-operated staple of the Ferndale community. Our deep military roots influence everything we do, from our disciplined medical standards to our founding of the Warrior Companion nonprofit, which supports the service animals of disabled veterans.

Clinical Excellence

Setting the Gold Standard in the Catskills

We have been the only AAHA-accredited hospital in Sullivan County since 1983, a distinction held by fewer than 15% of clinics nationwide. This voluntary commitment ensures that whether your companion is here for a routine check-up or complex surgery, they are receiving care that meets over 900 rigorous benchmarks for safety and quality.

The Patient Experience

Where Furry Family Members Come First

As a certified Canine Friendly Practice and Feline Friendly Veterinarian, we utilize low-stress handling and separate feline-only rooms to reduce anxiety. We treat every 'Pickles' or 'Wolfie' that walks through our door as if they were our own, focusing on eye-level interactions and individualized treatment plans.

A woman in a white lab coat, likely a veterinarian, is smiling while examining a small tricolor dog on a grey examination table. The setting is a veterinary office, with a window in the background showing an outdoor scene. The wall behind her features medical charts, a November 2020 calendar from The Misner Agency, Inc., and a computer monitor showing a video feed. The lighting is bright and even, typical of a professional workspace, creating a warm and compassionate atmosphere.

Comprehensive Care

Support for a Long and Happy Life

From specialized dental surgery and internal medicine to digital diagnostics and urgent care, we provide a full spectrum of health services. We also offer dignified support during difficult times through our Companion Memorial Crematorium, ensuring your beloved companions are treated with respect at every stage of their journey.

On the glass, the company logo and name, "Companion Memorial CREMATORIUM", are prominently displayed in black lettering, accompanied by an icon of a winged paw print with a halo. In the foreground, a dark wood mantel holds three elegant, ornate candle holders with tall white candles. To the left, a lush green fern sits in a decorative pot on a white stand. The room has light blue walls and white beadboard wainscoting, creating a calm and professional atmosphere.

Dr. Barbara Bodolosky grew up in Northwest Ohio. She attended The Ohio State University for her undergraduate work and graduated from The Ohio State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993. She was in the Army reserves as a medic from 1988 to 1996 and served active duty during Desert Shield and Storm.

Dr. Bodolosky practiced in a small animal/exotic animal practice during the first year of her career in Columbus, Ohio. She then practiced at a multi-doctor practice in New Jersey for 7 years before buying the Animal Hospital of Sullivan County in 2001.

Dr. Bodolosky practices general medicine and surgery at her Ferndale, NY office. She offers care to dogs, cats, birds, and all the little furry pocket pets. Preventative medicine is the best medicine but Dr. Bodolosky is well equipped to take care of most medical and surgical problems.

During her off time Dr. Bodolosky enjoys spending time with her family – husband Jack and daughter Kaitlyn, gardening and hiking. Our family also includes Brody, our black lab, and two chickens.
